Ready... Set...Shop!

Alright ladies, lace up your running shoes and slip on those leggings because there is a serious sale coming to town. Many of you probably recognize some of these names: Black and Blue, CAPITOL, Lotus, Coco Fleur and Sloan. Yes, all these labels and more will be available at this huge liquidation sale known as the Carolina Warehouse Sale.

The recession may have brought lots of heartache but there is one good thing that has come of this economic downfall. According to Ruth Caldwell, Senior Buyer for CAPITOL clothing store, since most stores conducted their buying for this season before the recession began, there is a surplus of inventory, causing the liquidation prices to be cut in half. What does this mean for consumers? A Sale with merchandise up to 85% off the boutique prices!

Lake Norman area shops previously held a sale similar to CWS but according to Caldwell, this is the first of its kind; “CWS will be staffed by community volunteers and the inventory will be organized by size, not store. If you are an 8, you will just go to the size 8 section and there will be everything in Charlotte that is on sale from all 20 stores participating in your size.” This is a sale that will be easily navigated and absolutely affordable. There will be no fitting rooms, just full length mirrors, so be sure to wear something that you can slip clothes over.

The sale begins Saturday, June 27th and goes until the final sale on Saturday, July 4th. Visit the website for CWS at www.carolinawarehousesale.com for further details on times and location.

Make sure to get there as early as possible because with sales like this, the pickings will be slim. During this recession where both consumers and small boutiques are suffering, this is the answer. “A pop-up outlet for specialty stores! And at a time when shoppers really need a bargain on fashion! It's a win-win situation,” says Caldwell.

Concord Collections

Concord Collections
By Nicole Hale

Concord, North Carolina may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of fashion know-all, but a small fashion retailer known as Ellemm may change your mind. Created in 2009, this fashion retail store holds eclectic clothing from up and coming designers who focus on major current trends while keeping a “free spirit” feel.

The designers displayed in Ellemm include Purlieu, Rojas, and Ryu. Purlieu has a sweet, feminine style that is seen in their petite, summer dresses. Rojas dominates the website and projects an eclectic, urban feel with a variety of dresses, skirts and tops. Ryu’s collection includes clean lines and simpler designs than the other two, while maintaining a different twist. All clothing can be purchased and fully returned through the user friendly website.

Not only does this retail website allow customers to shop for clothing and accessories but it also offers a style blog that keeps all its followers in the fashion know-how through advice and trend reports. Providing their customers with all the necessary tools to always be fashion forward is something that the creators of Ellemm pride themselves on and hope to continue flourishing at.

To get a peek at the new Concord retailer visit Ellemm’s website at www.shopellemm.com. All shopping is easily done through the website and further contacts for the store include e-mail at lremesi@shopellemm.com or call 704.458.0594.

Media Professionals ‘band’ together to get “Amped 4-A-Cure”:
Supporting cancer research through music

(Charlotte, NC) Whether it is as close as a personal battle, losing a close relative or simply hearing that the elderly lady at your church was recently diagnosed, we have all been affected in one way or another by cancer. We have two choices: to continue to watch this epidemic grow and monopolize peoples’ lives or step up and do something about it. That is exactly what a motivated group of individuals who have all been particularly affected by the disease recently decided to do: come together to use their talents and resources to form a movement with the sole focus of cancer research. Hence, “Amped 4-A-Cure” was born.

What began in 2007 as an annual benefit concert to support the research activities of Hanover Medical Specialists, P.A.’s Oncology Division in Wilmington, NC quickly transpired into a full on movement, as one of the initial creators, Xavier Grier, having recently lost his father to cancer, imagined that this project could be turned into so much more. After sharing the idea with his business partners, Rocky Robinson and Jonnell Walker of |THE, llc., he then introduced the idea to JSW Media Group Principal Jameka Whitten and Dany Eason of DEPR Communications, all of whom have lost close loved ones to the battle and were immediately on board. With these 4, along with Xavier and the remaining original creators, Heath Harrison, Charlie Harrington and Ashley Rogers, the Amped 4-A-Cure team was set and ready to take flight.

Amped 4-A-Cure’s mission is simple: to raise funds to support cancer research through the universal language of music. Some of the ways planned to raise funds is through mini concerts to be held in cities nationwide; partnering with existing concert series, music inspired events, and select live music venues to make all of their events official “Amped 4-A-Cure” events to raise funds and awareness; a major concert in December featuring both major recording artists and independents as a finale for their 2009 Million Dollar Campaign; and sales of compilation CDs.

Donations and proceeds generated from fundraising efforts go towards Amped-4-A-Cure’s beneficiary, The American Association for Cancer Research, www.aacr.org.

Their 2009 initiative, The Million Dollar Campaign, is to raise one million dollars in support of cancer research by December 31st. With donations and the support from others, Amped 4-A-Cure can help make this ambitious goal a tangible reality and help bring us one step closer to finding a cure.

For more information on how to make a donation, get involved, upcoming events, or the movement in general visit www.amped4acure.org.
